Managing Glucose Levels
What are glucose levels? Why do they matter?
Glucose levels represent the concentration of sugar in your bloodstream. Keeping these levels within a healthy range helps ensure your body has the energy it needs without unnecessary strain on organs. Effective management through balanced meals, regular exercise, medication (if needed), and routine monitoring supports better energy, stable moods, and lower risks of short- and long-term complications. Over time, unmanaged high or low glucose levels can lead to serious health issues such as nerve damage, vision loss, and cardiovascular problems.
What is Time in Range?
Time in Range refers to the percentage of time your glucose levels stay within a target range. Higher Time in Range suggests fewer extreme highs and lows, improved daily well-being, and reduced risk of long-term complications.
For people living with Diabetes. According to the American Diabetes Association, most people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes should aim for a time in range of at least 70 percent (17 out of 24 hours) each day to be in range (70 - 180 mg/dL). Some may have different targets. Talk with your doctor to figure out the right blood glucose levels and time in range targets are right for you.
For people without diabetes. Non-diabetics typically maintain blood sugar levels in the range of about 70–140 mg/dL throughout the day, and should aim to spend more than 96% of their time in that target zone.
What is Average Glucose?
Average blood sugar shows the general level around which your glucose fluctuates. Monitoring this measurement can help you spot consistent patterns—such as a tendency toward higher or lower glucose throughout the day—and make meaningful lifestyle or medication adjustments.
What is Maximum and Minimum Glucose?
Stability measures how smoothly your glucose levels fluctuate throughout the day. Avoiding sharp peaks and drops can reduce energy crashes, headaches, and long-term stress on your body, making for a more comfortable daily experience and healthier future.
